Why Stay Length Matters More Than You Think
The biggest variable in the total cost of a recovery house stay is the number of nights — and the right number of nights is determined by the procedure, not by your travel calendar. ASPS post-op guidance and the protocols used by Miami plastic surgeons converge on similar duration ranges:
- BBL: 7-10 nights. Sitting restrictions for 4-6+ weeks make 24-hour care during the first week non-negotiable, and fat graft survival is partially determined during this window (peer-reviewed PRS literature on fat survival rates: 60-80% with proper protocol).
- Tummy tuck: 5-10 nights. Drain monitoring, beach-chair sleeping position, and the demanding first 72 hours require trained staff. Most patients stay 7 nights.
- Breast augmentation: 3-5 nights. The first 48 hours are the most demanding, then most patients are functional enough to manage at a hotel or home with assistance.

These ranges are not arbitrary. They reflect ASPS-aligned recovery durations and what we observe day after day with patients in our Miami suites. What "Service Tier" Actually Buys You
Three tiers cover the range of needs we see across patients:
Basic (Semi-Private). A shared suite with another patient, same 24/7 staff, same on-site lymphatic drainage, same meals, same surgeon coordination. The compromise is privacy — you share the bedroom and bathroom with another recovering patient. For most patients who do not specifically need silence to rest, the semi-private tier delivers the full clinical experience at a meaningfully lower cost.
Standard (Private). Your own suite with a companion bed if you want family present. Same staffing, same drainage, same protocols — just private space. This is the most common choice for patients recovering from tummy tuck, mommy makeover, or multi-procedure cases where the recovery is more demanding and uninterrupted rest matters.
VIP (Private + Daily Drainage). Private suite with daily lymphatic drainage built into every day of the stay. For procedures where extended drainage cadence is medically appropriate (large lipo cases, BBL with significant donor-site swelling, mommy makeover with multiple drains), the VIP tier removes the scheduling friction of figuring out how many drainage sessions to add as you go.
Hidden Costs That Are Not Hidden Here
Most recovery house pricing pages quote a base nightly rate and then add fees on top at booking. Our pricing — and this calculator — shows the full picture up front:
- Post-op IV drip ($300, required). Hydration, electrolyte balance, and recovery support after surgical anesthesia. Standard at our facility for every patient.
- Pickup from the surgical facility. Included in every package. You do not arrange a ride home from surgery.
- Standard surgeon follow-up transport. Included. The first surgeon visit (usually day 5-7) is part of the package.
- Additional transportation ($120 round trip). Optional. Add if you need a second follow-up, a retail run, or extra logistics.
- Companion add-ons. Listed on the pricing page. Available for private suites if you want family with you.
- Holiday surcharges. Apply to specific dates and are listed at booking. Not built into the calculator default.
What is included in every nightly rate, regardless of tier: 24-hour on-site staff, all meals, medication management on a fixed schedule, compression garment assistance, surgeon coordination, drain monitoring with written log if applicable, and lymphatic drainage on the appropriate cadence for your procedure.
Lymphatic Drainage Cadence by Procedure
Lymphatic drainage is the most overlooked line item in recovery cost planning. - BBL: Daily in week 1, every other day weeks 2-3, twice a week through week 8.
- Tummy tuck: Daily in week 1, 3-4 times per week weeks 2-4, twice a week through week 8.

- Breast augmentation: Optional gentle drainage days 2-7 to manage swelling and tightness; not required as intensive a cadence as body contouring.

The calculator above generates a day-by-day breakdown showing what is included on each night of your stay. The phases reflect what we actually do in our suites, not generic recovery house marketing:
- Day 1 (surgery day): Pickup from the surgical facility, vitals + medication setup, light meal, 24-hour staffing for the overnight window.
- Day 2 (peak swelling, first drainage): First lymphatic drainage session, drain check if applicable, medication on schedule.
- Day 3 (often the hardest): Drainage continues, first shower with assistance, compression garment back on within the 15-minute window.
- Days 4-5 (recovery normalizing): Daily drainage, drain monitoring, walking duration extending.
- Days 6-7 (first follow-up window): Drainage every other day, surgeon follow-up transport included, drain removal at follow-up if applicable.
- Day 8+ (extended recovery): Continued drainage, compression garment management, discharge prep when surgeon clears you.
What This Calculator Does Not Cover
This calculator estimates the recovery house stay specifically. It does not include:
- The surgical fee itself (paid to the surgeon).
- Travel to and from Miami.
