Is thisnormal?
A warm, guided way to think through how you are feeling — without replacing your surgeon's advice. Five careful questions. No diagnosis, no alarm bells. Just clarity on what to do next.
Post-op recovery check-in
How many days post-op are you?
We use this to understand where you are in the typical healing window.
Absolute emergencies.Call before you click.
These are the symptoms that need your surgeon or 911 right now — no check-in, no debate. If any of this is happening, close this tab and make the call.
Shortness of breath or sudden chest pain
Can indicate a pulmonary embolism, the most serious known risk after cosmetic surgery. Call 911 before anyone else.
Fever above 101 F (38.3 C) that does not come down
A low-grade fever in the first 24 to 48 hours can be normal. Sustained or rising fever is not. Contact your surgeon the same day.
Calf pain, redness, or swelling in one leg
Possible deep vein thrombosis. Do not massage the area. Call your surgeon and seek urgent evaluation.
Asymmetric, rapidly growing swelling in one area
May indicate a hematoma or seroma requiring drainage. Contact your surgeon within hours, not days.
Foul-smelling drainage, darkening skin, or an incision that is hot to the touch
Signs of possible infection or tissue compromise. Same-day surgeon evaluation, not a next-week check-in.
Confusion, fainting, or inability to stay awake
Call 911. Do not try to drive yourself or wait for a call back.
Because no one should be searching“is this normal” on a forum at 3 a.m.
Bodied in MIA exists because the recovery window — the weeks between your surgery and the version of your body you were promised — is the most vulnerable part of this whole process, and the most overlooked.
This tool will never diagnose you, and it will never replace the person who knows your chart. What it will do is help you think more clearly about what you are feeling, decide who to call, and remember that you are not the first person to ask this question in the middle of the night.
